This Earth is exuberant with varieties of wild animals. Like Africa and other countries India is also considered for its great geographical value. India belong to two geographical zone, northern portion of India belong to north temperate zone and southern portion of India belong to torrid zone. For this reason there is a variation among the wildlife throughout India. India is a country where you can find  rarest species of wild animals. According to the India State of Forest Report , the total forest and tree cover is 79.42 million hectare, which is 24.16 percent of the total geographical area. There are over 166 National parks and 515 wildlife sanctuaries  around the country. In India various species of birds , lizards , snakes are found. Here are the list of top 10 wild animals of India.

10.Indian Bison –

Indian Bison opens the list of top 10 wild animals of India. It is found only in the Indian subcontinent and is commonly called Gaur. Gaur is a strong animal and it has high convex ridge on the forehead between the horns. Generally they are 4.8 ft to 7.3 ft tall and 8.2 ft to 10.10 ft long with a 28 to 41 inches long tail. Gaur are largely confined to evergreen forests or semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests, but also occur in deciduous forest areas at the periphery of their range.

Males weight 109 – 288 kilograms and female 100 to 220 kilograms.It is a subspecies of the onager native to southern Asia. Its coat is usually sandy, but varies from reddish grey, fawn, to pale chestnut. The animal possesses an erect, dark mane which runs from the back of the head and along the neck. The mane is then followed by a dark brown stripe running along the back, to the root of the tail. It runs fast at roughly 70-80 kilometers per hour.

It runs fast at roughly 70-80 kilometers per hour.

In india lion is only found in Gujrat that lives as a single population. In Gir forest there lives two species of lion indian and persian. The Asiatic lion’s fur ranges in colour from ruddy-tawny, heavily speckled with black, to sandy or buffish grey, sometimes with a silvery sheen in certain lights. They are generally 1.1 m tall and 2.82m to 2.89 mt long with a .79m to 89m long tail. Adult males weigh 160 to 190 kg, while females weigh 110 to 120 kg. 3.Rhinoceros –

Indian Rhinoceros or greater one horned Rhinoceros is usually found in the north eastern part of India and some parts of Nepal. Male rhinoceros are generally 1.6m to 1.9m tall where females are 1.5m to 1.7m. The length of males ranges from 3.7 to 3.8m while that of the females ranges from 3.1 to 3.4m and they weigh between 1600 kg to 2100 kg. The largest population of the indian rhinoceros are found at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

It has been supposed that India was the first place in which elephants started to become trained for domestic purposes. In southern India Elephant is the part of various festival. Indian elephants reach a shoulder height of between 2 and 3.5 m , weigh between 2,000 and 5,000 kg , and have 19 pairs of ribs. The largest population of elephants can be found at Periyar National Park , Kerala.

The Bengal tiger’s coat is yellow to light orange, with stripes ranging from dark brown to black; the belly and the interior parts of the limbs are white, and the tail is orange with black rings. They are generally .9 m to 1.1 m tall and 2.7 m to 3.3 m long including tail. The weight of males ranges from 180 to 258 kg , while that of the females ranges from 100 to 160 kg.
